Title

RASTER DATA SUPPORT IN GEOSERVER AND GEOTOOLS: RECENT ACHIEVEMENTS, UNSOLVED ISSUES AND FUTURE DEVELOPMENTSĀ

Abstract

The purpose of this presentation is, on a side, to dissect the developments performed during last year as far as raster data support in GeoTools and GeoServer is concerned, while on the other side to introduce and discuss the future development directions.

Advancements and improvements for the management of raster mosaic and pyramids will be introduced and dissected, as well the latest developments and updates for the exploitation of GDAL raster sources. The JAI Tools and ImageIO-Ext projects, born within the GeoTools community in order to exploit the collaboration between different community members and to maximize the reuse even outside the pure geospatial community will be introduced and described.

Eventually, deficiencies and challenges that would still need to be addressed will introduced and discussed as well in order to present the audience with a complete picture that would not only underline point of strength of GeoTools and GeoServer when it comes to managing raster data but also highlight weaknesses and propose workarounds (when available) and solutions.
