GRASS GIS - THE WORLD LEADING FREE SOFTWARE GIS
Abstract
GRASS (Geographic Resources Analysis Support System) is the most comprehensive open source GIS. It is capable of handling 2D and 3D raster data and topological vector data. Its functionality include image processing, spatial modeling, visualization, map production and the import and export of a wide variety of GIS data formats. GRASS is currently used in academic and commercial settings, as well as by many governmental agencies and environmental consulting companies. GRASS is an official project of the Open Source Geospatial Foundation. GRASS is released under the GNU General Public License (GPL). As a portable software it can be used on the common operating systems including Linux , Mac OS X, Microsoft Windows. Users can work with GRASS through a modern graphical user interface (GUI), via command line (shell) or using the GRASS plugin for QGIS. The Poster shows the history and current development of the software. It highlights some modern features such as Web Processing Services, integration with R, the leading open source statistical software, and a range of relational database management systems.
