Title

PUTTING THINGS TOGETHER: GEONETWORK OPENSOURCE, OPENLAYERS, GEOEXT AND MAPFISH UNDER THE ROOF OF DRUPAL CMS - GEOPORTAL RO AS AN EXAMPLE

Abstract

Web applications are often based on open source software. Many of these applications are very specialized in terms of what they do. And in this sense not only OpenLayers is a very precise tool doing exactly what it was made for: Webmapping.

There are a lot of GIS and non-GIS components in the web-world which are kind of "specialists" for what they are made for. The magic is to put these components together to get a huge and powerful but also very flexible webmapping framework. The power comes from "specialized" modules, like OpenLayers or Drupal as an example for a CMS. The flexibility comes from the modular architecture - because later it is really easy to change one component without changing the whole architecture and should be as simple as changing from one WMS server to another.

The talk focusses on the architecture and interfaces from a technical point of view.
As an example, the "Geoportal Raumordnung Baden-Württemberg" will be presented. The geoportal is built up with the above mentioned components.
