A STACK OF APPLICATIONS TO PRESENT AND MANAGE TRAILS AND BIKE ROUTES  

Abstract

The request on informations about trails and bike routes is increasing in the touristic regions. R3 GIS has developed for several customers of Northern and Central Italy portals to display geographic information, detailed characteristics of bike tracks, and other tourist information based on a stack of GFOSS applications.

The portal includes a front end for the public and a back office for the portal manager to allow him to edit the trails and related informations. Used Technologies include PostGIS to store geometric and attribute data, Mapserver for tile production, pgRouting to calculate trails based on user’s interest, GRASS to calculate trail elevation, GisClient as a back-office framework for data editing and OpenLayers as the public map client. Trail data can easiliy be exported as KML and GPX to GPS devices.
