Title

PRINTING IN WEB MAPPING APPLICATION: MAPFISH PRINT MODULE

Abstract

While web-mapping is amazing and the technology was virtually unthinkable only a few years ago, there are several critical use-cases where printed maps are required:

• Accurately scaled maps

• Very large maps

• Mapping at locations where an internet connection is not possible or impractical

The Mapfish[1] Print Module[2] is designed as a standalone module for printing from several internet datasource such as (but not limited to) Web Map Servers, Web Feature Servers, Tile Caches, KML and GeoJSON.  The Mapfish Print Module is used in several Mapfish based applications currently in production as well as bundled with Geoserver[3][4]

This talk will discuss the capabilities and applications of the Mapfish Print Module.  Included will be an in-depth look:

• the current feature set.

• An overview of how the print module can be integrated into a custom application (both Mapfish and non-Mapfish based applications).

• Future development planned
