BUILDING A BETTER WORLD: SDI DEVELOPMENT FOR FAO USING OPEN SOURCE SOFTWARE 

Abstract

 The purpose of this work is to describe the developments that GeoSolutions’ staff members have performed for various FAO departments  during recent years using Open Source software (e.g. GeoServer, Tomcat, JBoss, GeoNetwork, etc...) for a wide variety of infrastructures ranging from early warning systems to fishing monitoring and control applications.

 

The author will present a few reference scenarios that have been addressed and will introduce the architectures that have been implemented, with a particular emphasis on the role of GeoSpatial Open Source software as the basic building blocks.
