Title

OPEN SOURCE ARCHAEOLOGY- 2 YEARS LATER

Abstract

Two years after starting a process of "Going Open" Oxford Archaeology is now running large-scale excavations and research projects primarily using open source software. This talk will discuss some of the problems we have encountered and overcome, the unexpected avenues it has led us down (the establishment of a consultancy arm, the production of an entirely open source survey guide). Most of all though, it will discuss the successes that this process has provided- not only in the completion of successful projects, but also in staff development and training. Finally, the talk will discuss some of the areas where we still need solutions (and that hopefully the audience might be able to help with).
